Celebrations to include a first-ever Virtual Contest called The Youth Voice
February 7, 2023, Los Angeles, CA – Today the International Youth Media Summit (IYMS) announced its fifth annual International Youth Media Day, scheduled for March 9, 2023. International Youth Media Day has been celebrated annually on March 9th since 2019, with global activities that extend for an entire week and have included film screenings, art displays and performances that showcase impactful art and media created by young people.
This year, for the first time, IYMS is launching a virtual contest called The Youth Voice.
IYMS wants to encourage youth to find their voices again and break through the fear and uncertainty that has affected so many during two years of pandemic lockdowns and isolation. By using their art and media to speak, they will discover that they are not alone; and that they can make a difference in the lives of others.
To participate in The Youth Voice, contestants need to finish the statement “I want to use my voice for-” . Entries can be either an art form, videos, text, songs or spoken word. Entries must be posted to Instagram profiles using #IYMSYouthVoice #IYMS2023 by March 1, 2023. The submissions will be evaluated by media professionals based on the following criteria: how well the theme (using your voice) is incorporated in the submission, how emotionally effective it is and how original it is.
The prizes in The Youth Voice virtual contest will be scholarships for the winners to attend the 18th annual IYMS Summit in La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA from July 24 to August 6, 2023. The contest is open to all young delegates who apply for the Summit. Over the past 17 years, 1,600 participants from more than 70 countries have participated in the IYMS Summits. They created 120 films that address global issues to inspire action through grassroots initiatives in every corner of the world. The films can be viewed on the dedicated IYMS YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@iyms_org
Three prizes for the top entrants will be awarded: $900, $600 and $400 scholarships to attend IYMS 2023. The winners will be announced on March 11th, 2023 as part of the International Youth Media Day celebrations. To be eligible for the contest and the prizes, the contestant must apply for the IYMS 2023 Summit.
