Voices of the Ancestors:

Honoring Heritage Through Art & Media

The 20th International Youth Media Summit
July 17 – 29, 2025
Karlovac, Croatia

A Cultural Celebration in Karlovac’s Embrace

Join us in celebrating two decades of empowering youth voices! Karlovac, with its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, offers the perfect backdrop for this milestone Summit event. The city’s commitment to cultural preservation aligns seamlessly with the Summit’s theme, ensuring that everyone’s experience will be meaningful and memorable.

Know Our Past
The world is filled with incredible cultures, traditions and remnants of our past. To know our past, our ancestry, is to understand our present and anticipate the future.
Shifting the Focus
In 2025, the focus shifts on how cultural heritage is expressed and preserved through various art forms, such as music, dance, visual arts, film and literature, keeping ancestral voices alive.
Cultural Heritage
Croatia is abundant with tradition and cultural heritage, despite its size. In hundreds of years of interchangeable cultures throughout its territory, it is full with tangible and intangible testaments to the past.
...and counting.
UNESCO counts 10 properties inscribed on the World Heritage List along with 22 elements on the Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Croatia. The 20th edition of the Summit aims to honor just that!

The International Youth Media Summit (IYMS) is a unique annual event bringing together young delegates (filmmakers and diplomats aged 18-35) worldwide. Together, they collaborate on hands-on film production, creating impactful short films addressing global issues. Over the past 19 years, 1,700 participants from more than 80 countries have produced 140 short films, each tackling urgent social problems. The seven recognized global issues addressed each year are Discrimination, Environment, Health, Poverty, Violence, Women’s Rights, and Youth Empowerment.

During the two-week Summit, delegates work in seven teams, guided by experts and professionals, to explore the Seven Issues and develop films that raise awareness and inspire action. IYMS fosters peaceful collaboration among diverse cultures and builds lasting global partnerships. After the Summit, delegates continue their work by organizing workshops in their communities, using their films to educate others and drive grassroots change.

The 20th International Youth Media Summit will take place in Karlovac, Croatia, from July 17 to 29, 2025.

You can submit your interest by filling out a short form. The applications for attending the Summit will be open in January 2025.
